Figure shows the multiplication of hiv virus in all the cells ( RBC CELLS WBC CELLS CD4 CELLS PLATELET CELLS ) of the body. some cells serve as reservoir for hiv virus. THE VIRUS stays in these cells forever. Reservoir cells are not accessible to hiv medicines so the virus survives anti retroviral therapy. Thats the reason why hiv is not curable at present with the present anti retroviral drugs. These drugs only reduce the viral count but do not eliminate the virus from the reservoir cells . THE VIRUS WILL AGAIN MULTIPLY IF YOU STOP TAKING HIV MEDICINES THATS WHY HIV DRUGS HAVE TO BE TAKEN LIFE LONG WITH OUT SKIPPING PILLS. DRUG INTERRUPTIONS WILL LEAD TO DRUG RESISTANCE AND DRUG FALIURE
