TESTING FOR HIV There are different tests to diagnose hiv There are antibody based tests to diagnose hiv if the sexual exposure is less than 3 months. During window period (which is the period during which there are no antibodies formed against hiv) we dont do antibody based tests. There are other tests which can be done during the window period that is if the exposure is within 3 months .These tests detect directly the virus and not the antibodies. Then there are other tests to monitor hiv treatment and to Know the stage of hiv like cd4 counts and viral load .
